Frank Talking History
Why I do This
I have always loved history. In third grade I read my first biography, it was about Thomas Edison, and I was hooked. As I matured, so did my interests and I began a life long journey of becoming an insatiable consumer of all types of history. Yet, throughout the years my favorite category remained as it began, American History. When I entered college my desire to share what I had learned with others grew. This calling to share the important lessons of history led me to pursue a career in education, and subsequently to teaching on the secondary level for more than 40 years. It was a rich and fulfilling career, and as I approached retiring, I hit upon the idea I really would not have to quit teaching. It began when I was enticed to instruct a community education class on government and I discovered something very important. Adults of all ages did not just want to join health clubs and exercise their bodies, they also wanted to exercise their minds. I quickly learned my adult students were every bit as dynamic as my high school students. They were curious, interactive, and hungry, not just for knowledge, but also to understand the nuances of history while dissecting what they were learning.
My purpose, remains as it began, to communicate what I know about history and government, to promote greater understanding of the same, and to inspire my new adult students not just to learn history, but to share what they have discovered with others.
